Ph.D. Candidates: Full-time Ph.D. students for 2024/25 Intake

Research direction:

1. Controlled synthesis of nanocatalysts and their applications in the fields of hydrogen energy (production, storage, and conversion), CO2, and value-added conversion of sustainable chemicals.
2. efficient preparation of nano-enzymes and their applications in ROS-related diseases and electrochemical enzyme sensors.

Scholarships:

Requirements:
1. Hard-working, passionate about research, good at teamwork.
2. Both master's and bachelor’s degrees are welcome. Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related fields are all welcome.
3. Priorities will be given to applicants with backgrounds in nanomaterial synthesis, nanomaterial characterization, electro-/thermo- catalysis, energy conversion, biosensor, as well as other fields in energy, sustainability, and biology that are related to our group's research.
4. Admission requirement by Graduate School:
4.1. Normally hold:

  • A Master’s degree; OR

  • A Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours (or equivalent qualification), conferred by a recognised university.

4.2. English: obtained a degree from a university in Hong Kong or taken a degree program of which English was the medium of instruction; or

  • An overall score of at least 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); OR

  • A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 80 or above for the Internet-based test.

Research Fellows:
Calling applicants for 2024/25 Postdoc Matching Fund Scheme (6th Round).

The scheme supports a period of 24 months in terms of full-time appointment as a postdoctoral fellow (PDF) at PolyU. For each awardee, he or she will receive an annual stipend of around HK$29,000 per month for basic salary as well as a conference and research-related travel allowance.

Candidacy requirements:
1. Must have received a doctoral degree or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution no more than five years (regardless of date) before the year of application (regardless of date of degree conferral) or expect to receive a doctoral degree within the first six months of the date of submission of the application;
2. Demonstrated record of academic excellence and potential for leadership in relevant fields
;
3. Interest in scientific research, independence, creativity, perseverance, and cooperation;
4. Appointed postdocs are required to commence their employment with PolyU within six months of the announcement of the results.

 

Notes:

• The following candidates will NOT be considered:

- Candidates working as Postdoctoral Fellow under the Hong Kong Scholars Program; and

- Postdocs supported by Research Talent Hub for projects funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF).

• According to the Guidebook for Entry for Employment as Professionals in Hong Kong issued by the Immigration Department of HKSAR, the General Employment Policy does not apply to nationals of Afghanistan, Cuba, Laos, Korea (Democratic People’s Republic of), Nepal, and Vietnam. As such, PDF candidates whose nationality falls into any of the aforesaid areas may be rejected in their applications for work visas in Hong Kong.

The following documents are required:
1. CV :

A PDF applicant should submit a CV summarizing his/her experience and records of achievement; the CV should not be longer than four pages excluding the publication list. In the CV, the PDF applicant should select up to five of his/her most representative research output items and provide a full list of publications (with journal papers listed separately from other publications)/other research output items for the consideration of the University. If the research output items are journal articles, both the impact factor and the ranking of each journal in the discipline should be provided, if practicable. If the journal has different rankings in different disciplines, the discipline should also be stated. Accepted journal articles may also be included with the letters of unconditional acceptance attached. If the PDF applicant is not the first or second author of a journal paper listed in the CV, explanations for how he/she is the main contributor should be given. The impact factor and ranking of a journal in a discipline provided by the PDF candidate will serve as a reference for the University.
